HDC resumes Rasmale land reclamation
President Muizzu stated that the Rasmale development will provide 30,000 housing units to meet housing demands.
Housing Development Corporation (HDC) on Sunday resumed dredging activities for the Rasmale project.
The land reclamation initiative, initially awarded to Capital Marine and Civil Construction (CMC) from Sri Lanka, had been paused due to a change in contract terms.
The government terminated the original contract with CMC, opting to proceed with the project without allocating land to the contractor.
HDC announced the project’s resumption on Sunday, though further details have not been disclosed.
Dredging work initially began on December 18 under the partnership with CMC, targeting the Fushidhiggaru lagoon near K. Gulhi as part of the Rasmale project. The project plans to dredge 1,153 hectares from the lagoon, with an estimated completion timeline of eight months if work remained on schedule.
President Mohamed Muizzu previously stated that the Rasmale development will provide 30,000 housing units of various types to meet housing demands in the area.
