President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has directed the relevant authorities to treat the ongoing power outage affecting Malé, Hulhumalé, and Hulhulé with utmost urgency.
In a post shared via his official X account, the President stated that he had instructed for immediate action to restore electricity and prevent similar incidents in the future. He assured the public that the government is fully committed to resolving the situation and strengthening the reliability of power services.

A power outage affected Malé, Hulhumalé, and parts of Velana International Airport (VIA) for approximately 30 minutes on Sunday, beginning at 12:30 p.m.
State Electric Company (STELCO) confirmed that the outage impacted the capital region and the airport. The company attributed the disruption to a technical issue and stated that efforts were underway to identify the cause and restore service.
Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), which operates VIA, confirmed that backup generators were activated following the outage. The airport continues to operate under standard procedures using auxiliary power sources.
Several public and private services in Malé and Hulhumalé were temporarily disrupted due to the interruption in electricity supply.
