
Power restored in Malé after 6-hour outage; probe underway
STELCO confirmed that no damage to the grid has been identified so far.
Electricity has been restored across Malé following a power outage that disrupted services in Malé, Hulhumalé, and Velana International Airport (VIA) earlier today.
According to the State Electric Company (STELCO), the outage began at 12:40 p.m. Service has since been restored to all areas of Malé. However, one transformer in the Ruhgandu 1 area of Hulhumalé remains out of service.
STELCO has advised residents in Ruhgandu 1 and nearby areas experiencing continued disruptions to contact their emergency helpline at 104. The company stated that all remaining areas are expected to have service before sunset.
Engineers are currently working to determine the cause of the outage. STELCO confirmed that no damage to the grid has been identified so far.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has ordered an investigation into the power outage in the capital.
