Three senior police officers have submitted applications for the position of Commissioner of Police, following the vacancy created after the resignation of former Commissioner Ali Shujau.
Shujau stepped down on 25 April and formally retired on 8 May. The application window for the post closed at 12:00 p.m. today.
According to sources, the candidates who submitted applications before the deadline are:

The process for appointing a Commissioner of Police is governed by the Maldives Police Service Act. The procedures include:

The vacancy must be publicly announced and filled within 90 days

Candidates must hold the rank of Assistant Commissioner or higher

Applicants are to be interviewed and assessed by the Police Board

The National Integrity Commission and the Police Professional Standards Command are required to produce a report on each applicant
The report will evaluate whether each candidate meets the eligibility criteria, their standing within the service, and any reasons they may be disqualified from appointment.
The President will appoint the Commissioner of Police based on the recommendation of the Minister responsible for police affairs, after reviewing the names submitted by the Police Board.
