Parliament approves MVR 5 billion supplementary budget for 2024

Parliament on Tuesday approved the MVR 5 billion supplementary budget proposed by the government to cover additional expenditures for the remainder of this year.
The finance ministry presented the supplementary budget to parliament on Thursday, seeking an increase of MVR 5 billion to last year's budget. The proposal was reviewed by a parliamentary committee and was unanimously approved without significant debate.
During Tuesday's session, the supplementary budget received 75 votes in favour, with 11 members voting against and no abstentions.
The main components of the supplementary budget include:
