President appoints advisor Khaleel to economic council
Khaleel's company objected to a recent regulation requiring tourism businesses like resorts to exchange $500 per tourist at a local bank.
President Mohamed Muizzu on Monday appointed Mohamed Khaleel, his advisor on tourism development, to the cabinet's economic council.
Khaleel is a shareholder in the Dh. Kudahuvadhoo Airport operator, Pulse Hotels and Resorts, which runs four resorts in Maldives, as well as the Reollo Group and Manta Air. He is actively involved in the management of these companies.
Khaleel's appointment follows an incident involving Pulse Hotels and Resorts, where he serves as managing director. The company objected to a recent regulation introduced by the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) requiring tourism businesses like resorts to exchange $500 per tourist at a local bank.
