President appoints Asna as central bank deputy governor
Prior to her appointment as Deputy Governor, she served as the Head of the Financial Institution Development Department.
President Mohamed Muizzu on Monday appointed Aishath Asna Hamdhy as the Deputy Governor of the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), following parliamentary approval.
Parliament voted on Monday to endorse Asna’s appointment, with 73 members voting in favour. The appointment was made in accordance with the Maldives Monetary Authority Act.
Asna has worked at the MMA for approximately 17 years. Prior to her appointment as Deputy Governor, she served as the Head of the Financial Institution Development Department.
The appointment follows internal changes within the MMA under the leadership of Ahmed Munawwar, who became Governor in November last year. Since his appointment, several departmental heads have been designated as Managing Directors as part of structural changes within the institution.
