The national airline, Maldivian, has announced a reduction in ticket prices for Free Independent Travellers (FITs) who purchase tickets directly without using a travel agent.
The airline said on Monday that tickets sold to FITs have been reduced by an average of 15 percent. The move is intended to encourage travel to local destinations.
According to the airline, the new fares will apply to tickets sold from Monday and will be valid for travel starting in November.
Maldivian Managing Director Ibrahim Iyas said the decision is part of the airline’s efforts to support local tourism. He noted that the revised fares are aimed at providing more accessible travel options for tourists flying to different parts of the country.
Maldivian already offers special ticket prices for tourists travelling to resorts and guesthouses.
The airline currently operates flights to 17 domestic destinations.
