BML to raise dollar limits on credit cards from February

The President said these changes are intended to ease restrictions on Maldivians spending overseas.

President Mohamed Muizzu on Monday announced increases to foreign currency limits on Bank of Maldives (BML) credit and debit cards.

In a post on X, the President said the decision forms part of measures to expand monthly limits on card usage.

From February 2026, BML credit card limits will be revised as follows:

  • Classic cards: from USD 750 to USD 1,400

  • Gold cards: from USD 750 to USD 1,500

  • Platinum cards: from USD 1,500 to USD 2,000

The President also said debit card limits will be increased from 11 November 2025. Payments at overseas POS terminals using BML debit cards will rise from USD 750 to USD 1,000.

In addition, the following revisions were announced:

  • Airline tickets and debit card payments for hotels abroad will be increased to USD 3,000

  • Patients will be able to make hospital payments abroad using debit cards, subject to requests made through the bank

The President said these changes are intended to ease restrictions on Maldivians spending overseas.
