Villa Air, a domestic airline in the Maldives, has launched a new seaplane service connecting Velana International Airport and Villa Park Sun Island Resort. The service commenced on Sunday.
The airline has introduced two Twin Otter aircraft to operate the new seaplane routes. Villa Air had been preparing to start seaplane operations for several months, but the launch was delayed due to delays in obtaining the required operational permits.
Villa Air currently operates one ATR aircraft for its domestic scheduled flights between Velana International Airport and ADh. Maamigili.
With this launch, Villa Air becomes the fourth seaplane operator in the Maldives, joining Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA), Manta Air, and the national carrier, Maldivian.
Villa Air previously operated a seaplane under the Flyme brand, mainly for photo flights and limited charter services. The aircraft was later sold, and the new operation marks the company’s return to the seaplane market.
