MTDC begins hiring Maldivians to restart 19-year-delayed Nagoashi project

MTDC was allocated the island in 2006 for resort development, but the project has not been completed.

The Maldives Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) has announced the recruitment of Maldivians for the construction of the HDh. Nagoashi resort, a project that has remained incomplete for 19 years.

MTDC on Wednesday opened applications for a range of posts required for the Nagoashi development. The positions, offered on a two-year contract basis, include:

  • Project Manager

  • Construction Manager

  • Planning Engineer

  • Quantity Surveyor

  • Site Engineer (4 posts)

  • HSC Engineer

  • Procurement Officer

  • Procurement Assistant

  • Document Controller

  • Site Foreman/Supervisor (4 posts)

  • MEP Coordinator

  • Surveyor

  • Draftsperson (2 posts)

The announcement outlines the responsibilities and requirements for each post. Salaries will be determined based on qualifications and experience, as agreed by both parties. The deadline for applications is 27 November.

  • 2007: MTDC signs an agreement with Russian company Threecare to build the Nagoashi resort

  • 2016: Agreement terminated after nine years due to non-payment of rent and lack of progress; 37% of work completed at the time

  • 2017: Project transferred from MTDC to the Ministry of Tourism

  • 2021: Project handed back to MTDC and Dubai’s Galadari Holdings for redevelopment

  • 2023: MTDC cancels contract with Galadari after three years due to lack of progress

MTDC now aims to restart development by recruiting a Maldivian workforce to continue the stalled project.
