MIFCO buys 4 vessels for seasonal fishing
The vessels will be brought to the country by the first or second quarter of next year and will be put into service.
MIFCO has procured four more vessels to tackle the problem of unavailability of capacity during high fishing seasons.
MIFCO Managing Director Ismail Fauzi told Atoll Times that as part of MIFCO's ongoing efforts to increase its capacity, buying new vessels that can be used for fishing is also a priority. Here are the four vessels that have been purchased so far:
-
One vessel has a capacity of 120 tonnes
-
The other two vessels have a capacity of 210 tonnes
Fauzi said some changes were needed before the vessels could be put into service. He added that some documents of the boats should also be changed. Once these aspects are completed, the vessels will be brought to the country by the first or second quarter of next year and will be put into service, he said.
"These vessels will be an investment that will address the problem of unavailability of capacity in seasonal fishing until the storage expansion efforts are completed," Fauzi said.
MIFCO is in the process of increasing its storage to 14,000 tonnes. The company has high hopes of completing the project by June next year.
