The Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company has increased the price of canned tuna in oil, with the change taking effect today.

The company stated that the adjustment applies to tuna cans in oil sold at its outlets.

Under the revised pricing, the retail price of a single unit has increased from MVR 17.50 to MVR 18.50. The price of a case has increased from MVR 769.00 to MVR 800.00.

Following the adjustment, private retail shops have also begun revising their prices for the product.

MIFCO Public Relations Manager Shifza Musthafa said the decision was linked to changes in logistical and operational costs.

She said these costs have been affected by changes in global oil prices linked to developments in the Middle East.

In recent months, several countries have introduced measures to manage costs in response to external economic factors.

In the Maldives, state-owned enterprises have begun implementing cost measures following the conclusion of elections.

Earlier, President Mohamed Muizzu said the government was taking actions based on economic conditions and stated that no measures had been delayed due to the election period.
