President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has nominated two candidates, including Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation Fathimath Ameeza, for the post of Commissioner General of Taxation at the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA).
The position became vacant after former Commissioner General Hassan Zareer was appointed Minister of Finance last month.
Following the application process, the President submitted his nominees to the People's Majlis on Monday. The nominations were announced during the parliamentary sitting.
According to the President's letter, the nominees are ranked in the following order:
-
1-
Mohamed Haleem Abdulla of Saadhage, HA. Thakandhoo.
-
2-
Fathimath Ameeza of Cozyround, GDh. Gaddhoo.
Parliament has traditionally approved the candidate placed first on the President's list when considering appointments to senior state positions.
Haleem currently serves as President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Maldives. He is also Head of Finance at Villa Air and serves as a board member of the Capital Market Development Authority.
Ameeza has served as Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation since late 2024. She joined MIRA when the authority was established in 2010 as a Senior Management Officer and has previously served as Assistant Commissioner.
During her appointment as Deputy Commissioner General, Ameeza was selected following a recruitment process in which former Commissioner General Asma Shafeeu also sought the position.
The nominations have been referred to Parliament's Economic Affairs Committee, which will interview the candidates and evaluate their qualifications before submitting a recommendation to the full House for a final vote.
