Abdulla Fikuree has resigned from his position as Chief Legal Officer of the Maldives Pension Office.
The Pension Office confirmed the resignation to Dhauru on Thursday.
An official from the office said Fikuree submitted his resignation about a week ago but did not disclose the reason for his departure.
Fikuree's resignation comes after several senior officials left the Pension Office following the board's decision to sell a government bond worth MVR 2.4 billion held by the Maldives Retirement Pension Scheme to the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) and reinvest the proceeds in another government bond.
Those officials had reportedly opposed the decision, saying it would have a negative impact on the economy.
Fikuree's resignation also follows reports that the transaction, which had previously been put on hold, could proceed.
The Pension Office official said the transaction is not currently moving forward but acknowledged that discussions related to the matter may still be taking place.
Reports circulated on social media and in several news outlets on Thursday claiming that other senior officials had also resigned.
However, the Pension Office said it has confirmed only Fikuree's resignation and has not verified reports that any other senior officials have stepped down.
