Haris appointed Managing Director of MTDC

Haris Mohamed has been appointed as the Managing Director of Maldives Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC), following the removal of Ahmed Niyaz from the post last week.
The Privatisation and Corporatisation Board (PCB) announced Haris' appointment on Tuesday night.
On Thursday, the PCB removed Niyaz as Managing Director of MTDC. The board did not disclose a reason for the decision.
Before his appointment, Haris served as State Minister for Tourism.
He previously served as Acting Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), now Visit Maldives Corporation, from 2015 to 2018 during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen.
The leadership change comes amid reports that the head lease of GDh. Maguhdhuvaa, an island leased by the government to MTDC for resort development, was being prepared for transfer to the Turkish company operating the resort on the island.
According to those reports, the proposed transaction involved the sale of the head lease at a price below its market value.
It has also been reported that the PCB removed Niyaz after the MTDC board opposed the proposed transaction. The PCB has not publicly commented on those reports.
