The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade has issued notices to 17 shops in Malé for failing to display prices on products offered for sale, in violation of the Consumer Protection Act.

According to a statement published by the ministry on X, inspections were conducted at 34 shops in Malé between 15 October and Tuesday, 20 October, to assess compliance with product price labelling requirements.

The inspections found that 17 shops had displayed prices on their products in accordance with the law, while the remaining 17 had failed to comply with the requirements.

The ministry said notices were issued to the non-compliant businesses, instructing them to display product prices in accordance with the regulations.

The findings indicate that half of the shops inspected during the period had failed to meet the price display requirements under the Consumer Protection Act.

The ministry said inspections would continue as part of its efforts to ensure that businesses comply with consumer protection regulations.

It also warned that action would be taken against businesses that fail to follow the prescribed rules for displaying product prices.

The Consumer Protection Act requires retailers to comply with price display regulations intended to ensure that customers have access to pricing information when purchasing goods.
