Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir's company has been given a lagoon from Male atoll in exchange for a sandbank leased for resort development in Alif Alif Atoll.

An official of the tourism ministry confirmed to Atoll Times on Saturday that International Travel Consultant, which is owned by Jabir and his son Mohamed Jabir, have been given a lagoon from Male in exchange for a AA. Mathiveri Finolhu.

However, details pertaining to lagoon, date and the reasons for the transaction are yet unclear.

Mathiveri Finolhu was among the 50 islands and lagoons leased through MMPRC between 2014 and 2015.

Jabir got the island when he later bought International Travel Consultants Private Limited.

However, Mathiveri council had recently requested the government to designate the sandbank within its jurisdiction as it is frequented by picnic goers from the island.

Jabir, who is accused of failing to pay taxes and other dues to the state, recently rejoined the ruling MDP and is now seen at the forefront of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's re-election campaign.
