Air India is set to launch direct flights to Maldives from Bangalore and Mumbai.

Air India operated direct flights to Maldives during the winter season in previous years. However, the airline does not fly on other seasons.

Air India's Maldivian passenger sales agent, Villa Travels, said in a social media post on Wednesday that the airline will begin operating direct flights from Indian cities of Bangalore and Mumbai to Male from October 30.

Currently, direct flights between Maldives and India are operated by IndiGo, Maldivian and Vistara.

Maldives flagship carrier Maldivian is also scheduled to start direct flights between Male and Bangalore from October.

Tata-owned Vistara will also start direct flights between Maldives and New Delhi from October.

According to the tourism ministry, 133,495 Indian tourists visited Maldives by August 26 this year. India is now the second largest tourist source market for Maldives.
