The parliamentary budget committee will continue its work in such a way that the new government, which takes office next Friday, will have room to submit its views, committee chairman, Kinbidhoo MP Mohamed Nashiz, said on Tuesday.
The first meeting of the committee on the proposed state budget for next year and the supplementary budget for this year was held on Tuesday.
Speaking at the committee meeting, Maradhoo MP Ibrahim Shareef said the budget should be completed by this month and that government institutions and agencies will not be summoned to the committee.
Noting that, he suggested that institutions be given the opportunity to submit written comments.
In addition, the main concern expressed by the committee members was that they were not given the opportunity to submit their views as the new government was about to take over. The budget will be implemented by the new government, he said, adding that the transitional committee should be given the opportunity to submit its views.
Meanwhile, VIllufushi MP Hassan Afeef suggested seeking the new government’s word on the supplementary budget.
Responding to the concerns of the members, Nashiz said the budget work would be conducted in such a way that the new government would have the opportunity to submit ideas.
“There will be space for the concern of all members and new government,” Nashiz said at the end of the meeting.
