Bank of Maldives (BML) by error sent millions of dollars and millions of Rufiyaa into the accounts of some individuals on Thursday. However, the bank said that all the money has been recovered.

A screenshot of an employee of Lily Beach Resort went viral on social media on Thursday showing a large amount of money deposited in his account. He had a total figure of USD 77 billion in his account, which was a figure that had as many digits as his account number.

The young man said the amount had also been deposited into the accounts of other employees of the resort, but then, soon after, the BML application had gone down.

When contacted, the bank said that it was part of the new bulk payment service introduced in the payment of salaries muddled up by a mistake made by an employee of BML. The bank also assured that all the money has now been recovered.

The bank has suspended its internet banking services following the mistaken transfers.
