Police on Sunday stopped a Hindu festival that was planned to be held in Male on February 7.
According to a statement issued by police, a movement called Pongal 2025 has been halted. Pongal is a day observed in thanksgiving to a Hindu deity.
Police stated that the festival could not be held as planned, and the organisers were informed. The event has now been cancelled due to a lack of permission.
Police further stated that such activities would be prevented.
The Indian High Commission took the initiative to celebrate the day internally last year. The commission also marks the occasion internally and shares photos on social media.
