Govt orders criminal probe into woman, newborn's death
The Health Ministry has also launched an investigation into the incident.
The government has directed police to conduct a criminal investigation into the death of a woman and her newborn in GA. Villingili, Homeland Security Minister Ali Ihsan announced Friday.
The deceased have been identified as Shiuna Thaufeeq and her third child. According to reports, Shiuna did not regain consciousness after giving birth on Wednesday morning and was placed on a ventilator.
She passed away while being transported to GA. Kooddoo Airport. Her newborn was taken to Male for treatment but later died.
Ihsan stated on X that the government has instructed the police to investigate the case to determine responsibility and take legal action where necessary.
The Health Ministry has also launched an investigation into the incident.
The doctor who treated Shiuna has been sent to Male. The manager of the Atoll Hospital in Villingili, Ali Shameem, told Atoll Times that the doctor, a Nepalese national, was sent to Male on the orders of the Ministry of Health.
