
Couple in critical condition after fire in Rasdhoo
Several people were present in the house at the time, but the couple’s five-year-old child was unharmed.
A couple sustained severe burns in a fire that broke out in their room on AA. Rasdhoo island last night. According to family members, their chances of survival are minimal.
The fire started at 10:30 pm in the couple’s room. The woman is an employee of the Atoll Office, while the man works at Bank of Maldives (BML).
A family member stated that the woman suffered burns on 83% of her body, while the man sustained burns on 78% of his body. The woman has been moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Male, while the man is receiving treatment in the emergency room.
Doctors informed the family that the woman’s condition is critical and that her chances of survival are low.
"All her functions are declining, and there is no hope," the family spokesperson said.
The couple was transported to Male last night, but due to limited ICU capacity, immediate admission was not possible.
The fire was contained within the room and did not spread to other areas of the house. Several people were present in the house at the time, but the couple’s five-year-old child was unharmed.
Police are investigating the incident.
