Shifla Ibrahim, a member of the Maldives Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom) and former television presenter, has been appointed Vice-President of the Commission.
The position became vacant following the resignation of former Vice-President Ahmed Fazeen on 17 March. Fazeen stepped down after a case of alleged sexual harassment involving a female staff member of the commission was reported.
Shifla was elected to the role on Thursday.
Broadcom President Sofa Shafeeq confirmed the appointment in a Facebook post and extended congratulations to Shifla. She noted the professional background Shifla brings to the commission.
Shifla began her career in journalism in 1998 at Television Maldives (TVM). Over the years, she held various roles at the broadcaster and remained with the organisation for an extended period.
She holds a Master’s degree in Journalism and Media Communication and became a member of Broadcom in May.
Shifla is known for her work in television news and has been active in the media industry in the Maldives for over two decades.
