Yumnu undergoes most extensive surgery in Malaysia
Yumnu fell from the ninth floor of H. Fentenoige and was accompanied by Raud Ahmed Zilal at the time of the incident.
Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed, who sustained injuries after falling from a building in Malé on 18 April, has undergone a spinal operation in Malaysia, her family confirmed on Tuesday night.
Yumnu, 21, was transported to Malaysia on Saturday for further medical treatment. According to her brother-in-law, Mohamed Mumin, who has been providing updates via the social media platform X, she was taken into surgery at 3pm on Tuesday.
The procedure was carried out to treat a fracture in the C7 vertebra of her spine. Mumin described the surgery as a critical step in her recovery. He stated that if the operation proceeds without complications, Yumnu is expected to regain the ability to sit up soon. He requested prayers for her recovery.
Yumnu fell from the ninth floor of H. Fentenoige and was accompanied by Raud Ahmed Zilal at the time of the incident. Initially, police stated that no other individuals were involved. However, Raud was later arrested for allegedly failing to cooperate with the investigation.
The Criminal Court ordered Raud’s remand in custody. Police informed the court that a dispute had taken place between Yumnu and Raud before the incident. According to police, Raud later told someone that Yumnu’s whereabouts were unknown and that she had likely fallen.
