Three employees of a physiotherapy clinic in Hulhumale have been suspended and the clinic temporarily closed following an alleged incident involving the physical assault of a child during a therapy session.
A video of the incident, which reportedly took place last Monday, was circulated on social media platforms. The footage appears to show a child being physically mistreated by clinic staff.
Maldives Police Service has launched an investigation, though the name of the clinic has not been disclosed by authorities.
The clinic, in a statement shared via its official Facebook page on Sunday, confirmed the suspension of three employees. According to the statement, the action includes two staff members directly involved in the incident and one additional employee who was present at the time.
The clinic also stated that it has temporarily ceased operations due to the nature of the incident. It added that it holds the responsibility to maintain a secure environment for its clients and has previously provided live video access to therapy rooms for parents.
