The government has announced that Aasandha will increase its reimbursement for prescription glasses from MVR 1,000 to MVR 2,000, starting next month.
The announcement was made during a ceremony held to mark World Health Day. The increase is intended to support individuals who require numbered spectacles due to impaired vision.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu stated that all necessary calculations for the increased allowance have been finalised and that a letter has been sent to the relevant authorities to implement the change.
Currently, Aasandha covers MVR 1,000 for prescription glasses. According to officials, the cost of glasses with lenses typically ranges between MVR 4,000 and MVR 6,000. The new policy is expected to reduce the out-of-pocket expenditure for patients requiring visual aids.
