President Mohamed Muizzu has expressed gratitude to Saudi Arabia for its support towards the development of the Maldives, according to Foreign Minister Dr Abdulla Khaleel.
The President met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Saturday during his ongoing visit to Saudi Arabia. The visit was made at the invitation of the King of Saudi Arabia for the Hajj pilgrimage.
Foreign Minister Khaleel, who accompanied the President, posted a summary of the discussions held during the meeting on social media platform X.
President Muizzu thanked Saudi Arabia for its hospitality extended to Maldivian pilgrims. He also expressed appreciation for the Kingdom’s role in facilitating the Mecca Route Initiative, which he said has provided considerable relief to pilgrims from the Maldives.
He further thanked Saudi Arabia for its support in areas related to infrastructure development in the Maldives.
Minister Khaleel stated that the Maldives and Saudi Arabia maintain a relationship grounded in mutual respect and continued cooperation. He added that both countries are working to strengthen ties and contribute to regional and international peace.
President Muizzu also attended an Eid dinner hosted by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
