A delegation from the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), which former President Mohamed Nasheed has rejoined, has travelled to Ghana to meet him.
The group included former MDP Chairperson Hassan Latheef, former Vice President Mohamed Shifaz, and former parliamentary group leader Ali Azim.
An MDP source confirmed to Daur that the delegation is still in Ghana. Nasheed, currently serving as Secretary-General of the Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF), resides in the country. Photographs of the meeting have been circulating on social media.
“It was just a private trip. There was nothing official,” a source close to MDP Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail told Daur.
Nasheed has visited the Maldives twice recently, most recently on Independence Day last month. Both Nasheed and Fayyaz have expressed interest in contesting the MDP primary for the upcoming presidential election. According to some sources, Nasheed is believed to be supportive of Fayyaz, although no official endorsement has been announced.
