Abdulla Maahil Shaheem, a member of the Presidential Advisory Youth Assembly, resigned from the body on Sunday after being fined for attempting to smuggle a large quantity of vape products into the Maldives.
Maahil and another individual were detained by customs officers at Velana International Airport on Thursday night. Sources confirmed that a significant quantity of vape equipment was seized from the two men.

Based on the legal provisions, Maahil faces fines exceeding MVR 1.05 million, with the total penalties for both men surpassing MVR 2 million.
