President proposes ex-minister Rameela for rights body
The seat will become vacant at the end of next month when the five-year term of existing member Mariyam Muna expires.

President Mohamed Muizzu has nominated former minister Dr Aishath Rameela to fill a forthcoming vacancy on the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM).
The seat will become vacant at the end of next month when the five-year term of existing member Mariyam Muna expires.
The President’s nomination was read at Thursday’s sitting of parliament. The letter included only Dr Rameela’s name, with Muizzu stating that she was the sole candidate he considered suitable for the position.
Dr Rameela previously served as Minister of Agriculture and Animal Welfare before resigning from the post in December last year, citing health reasons.
Parliament’s relevant committee will now review the nomination before the matter is put to a vote.
