ODS Pvt Ltd has launched the Maldives’ first Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) programme, introducing a system for the collection and recycling of its ‘ONE’ brand PET bottles.

Under the EPR initiative, the company will buy back empty ‘ONE’ bottles produced at the One Degree South Addu Factory at a rate of MVR 0.33 per bottle. Customers will also have the option to earn Green Points, which can be redeemed for future purchases.

To qualify under the scheme, bottles must be empty, clean, and undamaged, with caps, neck rings, and company labels intact. Bottles reused for other substances will not be accepted.

The primary collection point during the initial phase will be the One Degree South Addu Factory in Hithadhoo. ODS plans to expand the programme by establishing additional collection points across major islands and cities in the coming months.

The initiative builds on the company’s earlier sustainability efforts, including the introduction of 18.9-litre reusable water barrels in Addu City when the One Degree South Factory began operations in 2017.

ODS stated that the new programme aligns with its goal of developing a circular economy around its products and promoting environmental accountability within the national beverage industry.

ODS Pvt Ltd is a locally owned food and beverage manufacturer based in Hithadhoo, Addu. The company’s portfolio includes 18.9L reusable water barrels, 1.5L and 500ml bottled water products, treated at source using UV and ozone purification technologies.
