Villa College, Atmosphere Foundation launch engineering scholarship scheme

Villa College and the Atmosphere Foundation have launched a joint sponsorship scheme to support Maldivian students seeking to pursue higher education in engineering who are unable to do so due to financial constraints.

The programme is funded by the Atmosphere Foundation and will be offered at Villa College’s QI Campus. Applications are open until the 1st of next month, with application forms available through Villa College.

Under the scheme, three full scholarships will be awarded:

  • Foundation in Engineering: two places

  • Bachelor of Civil Engineering: one place

The scholarship covers application and registration fees, tuition fees and other course-related fees.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a Maldivian citizen

  • Meet the entry requirements for the chosen course as set by Villa College

  • Not be enrolled in another higher education institution

  • Submit details of household income and expenditure, with evidence of need for financial assistance

  • Demonstrate interest in pursuing engineering

Student selection will be carried out by a committee formed by Villa College and the Atmosphere Foundation. Applicants will be assessed using a points-based system:

  • Educational results (40 points): including results from examinations such as A-levels, with consideration given to performance in mathematics and science subjects

  • Financial status (40 points): based on submitted income and expenditure information and the level of financial need

  • Personal statement (20 points): assessing interest in engineering, understanding of the field, leadership skills and future plans

Applicants are required to submit the following documents:

  • Completed scholarship application form

  • Confirmed offer letter for a Villa College course

  • Copy of Maldivian ID card

  • Copies of educational certificates and transcripts

  • Household income and expenditure statement

  • Personal statement
