Blood bank urgently calls for donors
According to MBS, the blood service needs an average of 200 pints of blood each week to meet demand.
The Maldivian Blood Services (MBS) on Thursday announced a need for blood donations from several blood groups.
MBS said on social media that its blood bank is seeking donors to meet ongoing requirements. The service stated that more than 650 patients are registered with MBS and require regular blood transfusions.
According to MBS, the blood service needs an average of 200 pints of blood each week to meet demand.
MBS said blood is required from the following groups: A positive, O positive, O negative, B positive, B negative, and AB positive.
The service outlined conditions for blood donation. Donors must be 18 years of age or older and weigh more than 45 kilograms. Donors are also advised to have at least six hours of sleep before donating blood and to eat breakfast at least one hour prior to donation.
MBS stated that voluntary donors may visit the Maldivian Blood Services facility at Orange Hiyaa, fourth floor, Hulhumalé Phase 1, to donate blood.
