2 arrested over Facebook Marketplace fraud cases

Maldives Police Service said on Sunday that two men have been arrested in connection with fraud conducted through Facebook Marketplace.
Police said Nadheef Mohamed, 36, of Rankokaage, GA. Gemanafushi, was arrested on suspicion of leading a series of scams conducted through the platform. He was arrested last Wednesday.
According to police, officers recovered bank cards, SIM cards, mobile phones, Maldivian rufiyaa and US dollars from him. Police allege that Nadheef Mohamed was involved in planning and carrying out multiple scams and in collecting funds obtained through such activities. He has been remanded in custody for five days.
Police also said a second suspect, Nakul KC, 23, a Nepali national, was arrested on the 7th of this month. He is accused of fraudulently offering a wardrobe for sale through Facebook Marketplace.
Nakul KC has been remanded in custody for 12 days.
Police said investigations into the cases are ongoing.
