The Maldives government on Saturday condemned the ongoing attacks in the Middle East and called for restraint and dialogue among all parties involved.
The statement follows military action by the United States and Israel against Iran, and retaliatory strikes by Iran targeting United States military bases in the region.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on the situation without naming specific countries. In the statement, the ministry said the government is concerned about the developments in the Middle East.
“The Maldives condemns attacks from all sides and urges an immediate de-escalation of tensions,” the statement said. “The Maldives calls for the restoration of peace and stability, and for all parties to act in full respect of international law and their obligations under the United Nations Charter.”
The ministry added that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states must be respected at all times.
The statement also said the Maldives continues to support the peaceful resolution of disputes and called on all countries to work together to maintain regional and international peace and stability.
