The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company has been awarded the contract for Phase 2 of the land reclamation and beach protection project in GDh. Madaveli.
The agreement was signed on Sunday at the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure.
Construction Minister Abdulla Muththalib signed the agreement on behalf of the government, while MTCC Managing Director Ahmed Saudi signed on behalf of the company.
According to MTCC, the project will cost MVR 175 million.
Under the project:

A total of 19.17 hectares of land will be reclaimed

1,645 metres of revetment will be constructed

Groynes will be built across a 120-metre area
Madaveli has a population of about 2,000 and has faced limitations in land availability for housing.
MTCC said the reclamation work will increase the available land area on the island and provide space for housing development.
The company added that the beach protection component of the project is intended to address flooding and erosion affecting parts of the island.
