The President’s Office Maldives has stated that President Mohamed Muizzu will continue to hold weekly press briefings on Mondays, subject to his schedule.

Spokesperson Heena Waleed made the statement on Monday, noting that the briefings will proceed in line with the policy announced earlier this year.

In his address to Parliament in February, the President outlined a plan to meet the press for one hour every Monday, from 10:00am to 11:00am, starting from March. The meetings are to be held unless affected by official travel, public holidays or other commitments.

No briefing was held on Monday. This follows the declaration of a public holiday last week after the local council elections and referendum held on 4 April. The President also returned to Malé on Saturday after completing an Umrah pilgrimage.

In a post on social media, Heena Waleed stated that the briefings would continue in the coming weeks in accordance with the policy.

“Press briefings will be scheduled in line with this policy in the weeks ahead,” she said.

Since the announcement, three briefings have been held on 2 March, 23 March and 30 March.

Briefings were not held on 9 March and 16 March, which coincided with public holidays.
