Minister of Social and Family Development Aishath Shiham resigned from her post on Tuesday.

Her resignation comes on the same day as the resignations of Minister of Defence Ghassan Maumoon and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Abdulla Khaleel.

Aishath Shiham previously served as Minister of Education during the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) administration.

The changes follow developments after the recent council elections, during which several heads of state-owned enterprises have been dismissed or asked to resign.

Mohamed Rishwan, Managing Director of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), resigned last week at the request of the government. Faruhath Shaheer was dismissed as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO). Abdul Matheen resigned as Managing Director of Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC). Hussain Didi was dismissed as Managing Director of AgroNet, while Mohamed Najah was dismissed as Managing Director of Fenaka Corporation.

Hussain Fahmy has been appointed as Managing Director of MWSC on Tuesday. He previously served as Managing Director of STELCO and as a Minister at the President’s Office.
