President Mohamed Muizzu has announced that a bill will be submitted to the People’s Majlis to establish a legal framework for the regulation of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Speaking at a press conference at the President’s Office on Monday, the President said that as digitalisation efforts progress, the use of AI must be incorporated within the legal system.
“While we adopt AI, it must be integrated into our legal framework and governed by defined principles,” he said.
The President stated that the proposed legislation will be submitted to Parliament in the near future.
The Maldives Police Service has previously raised concerns regarding the use of AI to create fabricated images and videos, including deepfakes, which may be used to harm individuals.
