MDP opens applications for chairperson election
The election is scheduled to take place on June 12. The party said that only members registered by the end of Wednesday will be eligible to vote.
The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has opened applications for the position of Chairperson.
In an announcement issued on Wednesday, the party stated that applications for the internal election will be accepted from today until the 2nd of next month.

To qualify for the position, candidates must meet the requirements set out for Members of Parliament under Article 73 of the Constitution and Article 8 of the Parliamentary Elections Act.
Individuals who have expressed interest in contesting the post include former President Mohamed Nasheed, Member of Parliament for Galolhu South Meekail Ahmed Naseem, and former Member of Parliament Alhan Fahmy.
The position became vacant following the resignation of Fayyaz Ismail. Member of Parliament for Hanimadhoo Abdul Gafoor Moosa is currently serving as interim Chairperson.
The party stated that elections for the Chairperson and other leadership roles, including positions in the National Council, will be held following the recent Local Council Elections.
