Sultan Park to close for renovation works
Sultan Park was previously closed for repair works in August last year and reopened during the recent Eid al-Fitr holidays.
Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure has announced that Sultan Park will be closed during evening hours from Sunday to allow remaining works under its renovation project.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the ministry said pending tasks would be carried out daily from 6:00pm onwards.
The park will be temporarily closed to the public during these working hours.
The ministry apologised for inconvenience caused to visitors.
Sultan Park was previously closed for repair works in August last year and reopened during the recent Eid al-Fitr holidays.
The park was redeveloped during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen, when current President Mohamed Muizzu served as housing minister.
President Muizzu later announced plans for further redevelopment during his “Baajjaveri Hendhuneh” public programme.
Speaking in an episode aired in April last year, he said the park would be redesigned as a public recreational area.
He also said the plan included elevated walkways linking trees within the park.
“This will not only be for children. We intend to develop it as a destination that adults and youth alike can enjoy,” the President said.
