Mahudhee died last Saturday while receiving treatment at ADK Hospital after suffering from decompression sickness during the operation.
The Maldives Police Service has launched an investigation into the death of Mohamed Mahudhee, an officer of the Maldives National Defence Force, who died during a search and rescue operation for missing Italian divers in Vaavu Atoll.
Mahudhee died last Saturday while receiving treatment at ADK Hospital after suffering from decompression sickness during the operation.
Police confirmed on Wednesday that an investigation is underway into the circumstances surrounding his death. No further details were disclosed.
Mahudhee was involved in the search operation launched after five divers went missing while exploring an underwater cave near Vaavu Atoll.
According to reports, the group had descended to a depth exceeding the limits permitted for recreational diving in the Maldives.
Following Mahudhee’s death, the operation was temporarily suspended.
The search later resumed with assistance from diving specialists from Finland, and the bodies of the missing divers were subsequently recovered from the cave.
