The People's National Front on Thursday formally endorsed the joint political movement launched by three former presidents to work collectively on issues related to government accountability and press freedom.

Former Presidents Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, Mohamed Nasheed and Ibrahim Mohamed Solih met last Friday and agreed to collaborate through a unified political alliance.

During a session held on Thursday, the PNF Senate passed a resolution supporting the joint declaration issued by the three former presidents.

According to the resolution:

  • Active participation in the joint efforts of the three leaders is viewed as being in the national interest

  • The party will cooperate fully in implementing the objectives of the alliance through both independent and joint efforts

The PNF stated that all members of the party’s Senate signed the pledge supporting the initiative.

The alliance was formed following discussions between the three former presidents on issues including press freedom, governance and accountability.

Earlier this week, the Maldivian Democratic Party National Council also unanimously passed a resolution supporting the alliance.
