EC confirms 4,120 eligible voters for Hithadhoo North by-election
The by-election is scheduled to take place on 6 June.
The Elections Commission of Maldives has published the list of eligible voters for the upcoming by-election for the vacant Hithadhoo North constituency seat in the People’s Majlis.
According to the list published in the Government Gazette on Monday, a total of 4,120 individuals are eligible to vote in the election.
The Elections Commission has also released details relating to voters assigned to seven polling stations that will be established in Addu City and Malé.
The by-election is scheduled to take place on 6 June.
The seat became vacant after former ruling People’s National Congress member Mohamed Sinan lost his parliamentary seat due to a confirmed debt case.
The election will be contested between former Addu City Mayor Abdulla Sodiq representing the Maldivian Democratic Party and Ahmed Saeed representing the PNC.
Sodiq secured the MDP candidacy without a primary after no other candidates contested for the party ticket.
Ahmed Saeed initially contested in the PNC primary, which was won by Sinan before his disqualification.
Following Sinan’s decision not to contest the by-election, the PNC leadership awarded the party ticket to Saeed, citing insufficient time to conduct another primary.
