An Interpol Red Notice has been issued for a man wanted in connection with a child sexual abuse investigation in the Maldives.
Maldives Police Service said on Tuesday that the international alert was requested after the suspect allegedly left the country shortly after the case was reported to authorities.
The suspect has been identified as Izyan Abdul Hameed, 38, of Raahi, F. Nilandhoo.
According to police, his current whereabouts are unknown.
Authorities said the Red Notice was issued to assist in locating and apprehending the suspect through international law enforcement cooperation.
Police have not released further details regarding the allegations, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.
An Interpol Red Notice is a request circulated to law enforcement agencies worldwide seeking the location and provisional arrest of a wanted individual, pending extradition or other legal proceedings.
The notice enables member countries to cooperate in tracing and detaining suspects who are believed to have crossed international borders while under criminal investigation or facing prosecution.
Police said efforts to locate Izyan are continuing in coordination with international partners.
