Pharmacies previously operated by the State Trading Organization (STO) began operating under State Pharma on Wednesday following the transfer of their management to the state-owned pharmaceutical company.

State Pharma announced that the transfer took effect on Wednesday and that services are now being provided through the pharmacies under its management.

The company said the move is intended to improve access to pharmaceutical services across the Maldives and strengthen service delivery.

According to State Pharma:

  • Minor operational challenges may occur during the initial phase of the transition.

  • Its customer hotline, 1505, will operate 24 hours a day to provide assistance.

  • The company aims to provide pharmaceutical services to communities across the country.

State Pharma was established by the government in September last year following public concerns over shortages of medicines used to treat a number of medical conditions. The company was created to oversee the import and supply of pharmaceuticals.
