The Malé City Council has halted a roadwork project and issued a fine after workers failed to display the required permit board at a work site in the capital.

The action was taken on Friday at a site at H. Maadhoo, where work was being carried out on the pavement of Boduthakurufaanu Magu.

According to the council's penalty notice, the work was conducted without displaying the roadwork permit board issued by the council, in breach of the Regulation on Conducting Work on the Streets, Pavements, Harbours and Public Spaces of Malé City.

The council shared images of the work site and the penalty notice on social media but did not disclose the amount of the fine.

In recent weeks, the council has stepped up enforcement of municipal regulations, including monitoring roadworks and taking action against the illegal disposal of waste in public areas.

The council continues to issue penalties to individuals and businesses found to be in breach of its regulations.
