The Malé City Council has decided to provide free venue space for island councils holding meetings with residents from their islands who are living in the Greater Malé area.

The decision was approved unanimously during the council's general meeting on Wednesday.

According to the council, the initiative is intended to assist island councils that face difficulties finding suitable venues in the capital, where many residents from other islands now live.

Under the decision, island councils will be allowed to use available venues managed by the Malé City Council for meetings held in Malé.

The council also approved the provision of refreshments for participants at no cost.

The motion was passed with the support of all councillors present at the meeting.
